Today’s Track of the Day is a enigmatic pop hybrid called ‘Delilah’, by an artist from California’s Silver Lake, simply known as Stephen.
Stephen broke onto the American music scene in 2015 with the release of ‘Remembering Myself’, which become a hit single and featured as the third track in Stephen’s 2016’s debut record ‘Sincerely’. Delilah starts with an emotional Piano line supporting a strong vocal melody akin to Thom Yorke’s Anima record. The Track also shares a similar genre bending similarity with Anima.
Is ‘Delilah’ a Pop record? Debatable. Is it an Indie, bordering on Rock record? You could certainly make a case for that.
Stephen has shown there are no boundaries or genre constraints to his music. This lack rules allows for a exhilarating vocal performance throughout the 4 minute piece, with a great use of dynamics allowing the main hook to hammer home on not just on the first, but the second time of asking. With plenty of tension building in between, this one feels like it has the potential to be a powerful track when performed live, let’s hope we find out soon.
