Here at In Phase, we’re big fans of Tame Impala. We’re also big fans of Four Tet. So you can imagine our excitement when the two joined forces this week, with Four Tet (AKA Kieran Hebden) releasing a remix of ‘Is It True’, the latest single to be taken from Tame Impala’s fourth album The Slow Rush following its release back in February.
Both artists have kept themselves busy in the last few months; Four Tet’s most recent album Sixteen Oceans was released on the cusp of lockdown, and whilst he hasn’t been able to take his new material on the road as previously planned, he’s been regularly treating fans to livestreams from home. Tame Impala, on the other hand, had their The Slow Rush tour ground to an untimely halt in March, but last week revealed the visuals for the original version of ‘Is It True’, just to keep fans on their toes.
Hebden’s reworking of the track gives it an entirely new spin. Almost unrecognisable from the original if not for Kevin Parker’s vocals, this version gives ‘Is It True’ an ethereal vibe, incorporating dreamy synths and distorted nature sounds to put a truly experimental twist on the original.
While it’s said that you shouldn’t interfere with something that’s already perfect, we can’t say we mind too much in this case.
