Despite any plans of live shows being discarded, Hot Chip have been anything but quiet over the past few months. Despite their world tour being cut short, the London-based unit have been hard at work making up for lost time. Last month, the band announced they would be playing live from Margate’s Dreamland venue in front of a small, socially-distanced crowd. Tonight, they take to the stage with the show broadcasted across the world. On top of their only gig of 2020, this week it was announced the band would curate the latest instalment of Late Night Tales.
Whilst the compilation won’t be released until next month, Hot Chip teased the album alongside their announcement, sharing a cover of The Velvet Underground’s ‘Candy Says’ – which will, of course, feature on the album alongside three yet-to-be-released original songs.
Hot Chip’s cover of ‘Candy Says’ doesn’t stray too far from the original, retaining the same arrangement and simplistic vocals. The track is quintessentially Hot Chip, though, with synths bringing it up to date and giving it a more electronic vibe. In a way, the simplicity of the track makes it stand out and shows a different side to the band that isn’t often showcased, and we can’t wait to hear what else they have in store on their edition of the legendary mixtape.
Whilst the full Late Night Tales mix won’t be released until 2nd October, you can stream Hot Chip’s cover of ‘Candy Says’ below.
